Special Olympics

Photo essay of the 2009 Chicago Spring Special Olympics. Unlike most of my albums this one actually has a storyline so I recommend clicking through the images in order.

What a rewarding experience for me personally to combine two things I love so much. This is my second experience volunteering for the Special Olympics and I have been truly humbled both times. The amazing spirit of the athletes, coaches, families, friends and volunteers is about as heartwarming as it gets. If ever you find yourself down on the potential of humanity just take a trip to your nearest Special Olympics event and I assure you your mind will be straightened.
Thanks to the Chicago Photography Meetup Group and Chicago Special Olympics to allow me this opportunity. Also, a special thanks to all the organizers, coaches, volunteers, friends and family who provide this amazing experience for members of our community who are sometimes overlooked and frequently misunderstood. And and extra special thanks to the athletes for being you. You all earned the gold in my heart.
I hope you all enjoy these images as much as I enjoyed creating them.
